Best Friend for Life..
Now people who watch Hindi Movies….surely you have seen the likes of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai[KKHH] and Hum Tum, the ones propagating that a girl and boy can never be just friends. I haven’t seen When Harry met Sally, but I hear it is supposedly based on the same theme.
You must be wondering why am I going on about an irrelevant issue as this. That is because I have a best friend who is a male and often people say that it seems like more than just friendship. Well let me tell you it is not. You people have been fed too much of Koffee by Karan Johar. :D
My best pal is Prashant and I have known him for over 10 yrs now. There are a lot of other friends I have whom I have known an equally long time. But the reason I call him my best friend is because of the level of comfort I have while talking to him about any thing under the sun. And I know he has that too. Now I don’t want to offend my other girl friends, but I am not in their world of talking marriage, mascara and other gooey make-up shit or stupid soaps. I enjoy their company on a day out but there are things I am not comfortable talking to a few of them, as I am talking to other friends. And of course, the girls are the ones who keep saying, “Hey, You too seem an item. What’s going on??”. Now, I don’t mean to be offensive or anything, but it’s none of your business.
Sure, I agree he was my first crush. Anyone who knows me, knows the story of my friendship with him. How, as early as class six, I had seen him at my aunt’s school play and had crush-at-first-sight on the adorable boy who played King. After that, I watched the play on the VHS tape many times, not knowing his name, and a few days later found him at my home for tuitions under the strict supervision of my aunt. I distinctly remember how I startled him by saying, “HEY, YOU ARE CHOWPAT RAJA, RIGHT?”[Chowpat Raja was the Character he played in the play]
I left no stone unturned to acquaint myself with him, and the more I knew him, the crush turned quickly into admiration for the person he was and still is. I think I was destined to have met him so. I respect him, admire him and am the most proud of him. I have seen him evolve day after day. He has always been there for me, when I needed him. There were times when I kept him out of most my troubles, but when there were troubles, a brief chat with him was enough to ease it all.
Now think what you may. He is and has always been my dearest friend. Mom too had once asked me if I was interested in him and my answer was a triumphant NO. We have loads of fun talking to each other, making the other feel special and frankly speaking, he has some nerves to put up with me for so long. Very few people have managed to do that.
So that’s that. Please Karan Johar, make another movie so that people realize that a girl and guy can be just good friends. Well that’s a word associated with gossip columnists too, isn’t it? When actors say they are “JUST GOOD FRIENDS” they want to make mountain out of the molehill. It has gained some amount of notoriety I must say. Very clichéd.
I jus wanna sign off saying that, please don’t make a big deal out of it. Cos its not. REALLY.
